Serving Children, Youth & Adults In-Person in Guelph & Virtually Throughout Ontario
FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
I closely support children, youth, and adults navigating anxiety, stress, emotional regulation, single incident and complex trauma (including pre-verbal & developmental), school-related challenges, life transitions, and complex or longstanding mental health needs. This includes individuals in high-demand and high-stress roles, such as first responders and those in helping professions. Therapy is always tailored to each person’s unique experiences and goals.
Therapy can be helpful when emotions, stress, or life experiences begin to feel overwhelming, difficult to manage, or are impacting your day-today life, relationships, or wellbeing. It's important to know that you don’t need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy, many people seek therapy for support, growth, and balance, before a crisis or complete overwhelm occurs.
Yes! Supporting people in high-stress and high-demand roles is an area I care about deeply and have significant experience in. I understand the weight of compassion fatigue, burnout, occupational trauma, moral injury and the culture that often makes it hard to ask for help. I offer a space that is confidential, non-judgmental, and genuinely informed by the realities of that kind of work.
Yes. I've recently made an exciting transition to dedicating myself fully to Solis Wellbeing, which means I have more availability right now than I typically will. If you've been on the fence about reaching out, consider this good timing! I'd genuinely love to connect and I'm accepting new clients for September, 2026!
Yes, I offer a complimentary 15 minute phone consultation before you commit to booking. It's important to know this is not a therapy session and we won't dive into the deep stuff just yet. It's simply a chance for us to connect, for you to get a sense of how I work and whether it feels like a good fit, and for you to ask any questions you might have. Taking that first step can feel like a lot, and I want you to feel comfortable before you do. Reach out and we'll find a time to chat.
Yes. I work with children, youth, and adults, and I tailor my approach to each person's age, needs, and stage of life. For younger children, I draw on clay-based, art/play-based and experiential approaches that allow them to express and process what they're carrying in ways that feel natural for them. For teens, I work in a way that honours their growing need for independence while keeping families meaningfully involved with consent. For adults, much of my work has been focused on supporting people who carry a lot, first responders, people in high-stress and demanding careers, and parents who are doing their best to show up for everyone else while quietly navigating their own. If that sounds like you, you're in the right place.
Parents and caregivers are an important part of a child or youth’s support system. Your involvement can be incredibly beneficial, and your insight helps build a deeper understanding of your child’s needs, strengths, relationships, and day-to-day experiences.
At the same time, therapy also needs to feel safe and confidential for children and youth, in order for it to feel meaningful for them. In Ontario, privacy and consent are guided by capacity, not simply age. This means that when a young person is capable of making decisions about their care and personal health information, they may have a say in what is shared, including with parents.
Whenever possible, I will aim to work collaboratively with both the child or youth and their parent/caregiver. With appropriate consent, we can share themes, strategies, goals, and ways to support progress at home, while also protecting the young person’s privacy and trust in the therapeutic relationship.
Solis wellbeing's approach is family-informed and relational. The goal is to meaningfully involve parents, honour the child or youth’s voice and confidentiality, and ensure the work happening in therapy translates into real, supportive change at home and in daily life.
No. You don’t have to talk about everything right away.
Therapy moves at your pace, and building a sense of safety and trust is always the first step. You are never expected to share more than you’re ready for.
There are also ways of working that don’t rely only on talking. Depending on your needs, we can use approaches (like clay based interventions) that support processing and healing in a way that feels more manageable and comfortable.
The length of therapy varies depending on your needs, goals, and what you’re hoping to work through.
Some people benefit from short-term support focused on a specific concern, while others choose to engage in longer-term therapy, especially when working through deeper or longer-standing experiences such as trauma or patterns that have developed over time.
The process is tailored to you. I consider your goals, past experiences, your current supports, current functioning and what you share feels most important for you to focus on. Therapy alone will not be as effective, growth and healing is often supported by what happens outside of sessions as well, including practicing strategies and applying learning to daily life.
For children and youth, caregiver involvement can play an important role in supporting progress between sessions and helping strategies carry over into home and school environments.
Therapy is a collaborative process. I will regularly check in on your goals and progress, and move at a pace that feels supportive and manageable for you.
Yes. Therapy is confidential.
Your personal information and what you share in sessions are kept private and protected in accordance with Ontario privacy laws, including the Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004 (PHIPA). Creating a safe and trusting space is an essential part of the therapeutic process and relationship.
There are some important limits to confidentiality that are important to be aware of as well. Information may need to be shared if there are concerns about safety, such as:
If there are concerns about your safety, we will work closely with you to discuss next steps and explore an appropriate safety plan. Every effort will be made to involve you in planning appropriate supports (for example, connecting with a trusted person or healthcare provider). In situations where this is not possible, we may need to take steps without your consent to reduce the risk of serious harm, in accordance with the Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004 (PHIPA) and our professional obligations.
If there is concern that you have intent to seriously harm, injure, or kill someone else, we may need to take steps without your consent to reduce the risk of serious harm, in accordance with the Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004 (PHIPA) and our professional obligations.
Information that may indicate a child/youth is at risk for, or has been, physically, sexually, emotionally abused or neglected, there is a requirement in accordance with the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, 2017 (CYFSA) to report this information to Family and Children’s Services of Guelph & Wellington
Situations where records are required by law, such as a court order or subpoena
In these situations, where possible, I will always aim to be transparent and discuss next steps with you.
We will review confidentiality and its limits together at the beginning of our work, so you feel informed and comfortable moving forward. You are always welcome to ask questions, and you can revisit or change your consent around what is shared at any point.
The first session is a chance to get to know each other and begin understanding what’s bringing you to therapy.
We’ll spend time talking about what's been going on, what you’re hoping for, and any questions or concerns you may have. We will also gather some background information to help build a clearer understanding of your experiences and needs, which helps guide the direction of our work together.
We may begin to explore initial goals, but there is no pressure to have everything figured out right away. Many people come to the first session unsure of where to start, and that’s completely okay.
The first session is also an opportunity for you to get a feel for how I work and to decide whether this feels like a good fit. My focus is on creating a space that feels comfortable, supportive, and paced in a way that works for you.
Taking the first step can feel big; you’re welcome to reach out through the contact form or by email whenever you feel ready. I can begin with an initial consultation or first session to connect, explore what you’re looking for, and see if this feels like a good fit. From there, we can discuss next steps together. I'm looking forward to meeting you.
I'm in Guelph, Ontario. My space is located at 394 Woolwich St., Guelph.
Yes, in addition to providing in-person sessions from my Guelph space, I also offer virtual therapy to serve clients throughout Ontario .
My fee is $200 for a 50 minute individual therapy session. What you're investing in is not just an hour of someone's time. It's a space that is entirely yours, held by someone who brings over 15 years of experience, specialized training, art, clay, pottery supplies and genuine care to every single session. That matters, and I believe the quality of support you receive here reflects that. Many extended health benefit plans in Ontario cover registered social work services, which means your sessions may be partially or fully reimbursed through your insurance. It's worth taking a few minutes to check with your provider before your first appointment. I provide detailed receipts for every session that you can submit directly to your plan.
If Clay Field Therapy is part of our work together, there's no additional cost for the session itself. The one exception is if you'd like your piece fired after your clay-based session (hand built or wheel thrown), bisque and glaze firing is available for an additional $16, which covers the cost of the process with the kiln technician, outside of our time together. Many people find it meaningful to take their piece home, and it's a lovely way to mark the work you've done. For organizational consulting, systems work, or supervision, please reach out directly and I'd be happy to learn more about your needs and provide a quote that fits your context.
Payment is due prior to your scheduled appointment. You are welcome to pay by e-Transfer to sony@soliswellbeing.ca before your session. If payment has not been received by the time of your appointment, the credit card on file will be charged following your session. Please note that credit card payments are subject to a 2.75% payment processing fee, which will be added to your session fee.For information about direct billing to other insurance plans, please refer to the section titled, “Do you offer direct billing to insurance?”
If you are covered by Sun Life, and you provide your consent, I am able to submit your claim directly to Sun Life on your behalf. Direct billing is offered as a convenience and is dependent on your individual plan and eligibility. While every effort will be made to process your claim accurately, you remain responsible for the full cost of your session if your claim is declined, only partially reimbursed, or if your coverage changes or benefits are exhausted.Coming Soon!Solis Wellbeing is currently in the process of becoming approved for direct billing through TELUS Health eClaims. Once approved, direct billing will be available for many participating insurance providers, subject to your individual coverage and eligibility. A current list of participating insurers can be found on the TELUS Health eClaims Participating Insurers page. Please note that not all insurers support all health professions or direct billing services, and coverage varies by individual benefits plan.
Solis Wellbeing Cancellation and Missed Appointment Policy: Your appointment time is reserved especially for you. When a session is booked, that time is set aside to support your care and is no longer available to another client. If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, I kindly ask that you provide at least 24 hours’ notice. This allows me the opportunity to offer the appointment to someone else who may be waiting for support. For appointments scheduled on a Monday, I kindly ask that you notify me by Friday at the same appointment time whenever possible. For example, if your appointment is on Monday at 2:00 p.m., please provide notice by Friday at 2:00 p.m. This helps ensure there is enough time to offer the appointment to another client before the weekend. If an unexpected illness or emergency arises over the weekend, please let me know as soon as you are able.Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice, as well as missed appointments (no-shows), will be charged the full session fee.
I understand that life is sometimes unpredictable and unexpected circumstances or emergencies can arise. If something beyond your control prevents you from attending your appointment, please let me know as soon as possible. While the cancellation policy is applied consistently to ensure fairness and to help keep appointment times available for all clients, exceptional circumstances will always be considered with care and professional discretion. If you are feeling unwell or are unable to attend in person, a secure virtual session may be an option, depending on the circumstances and whether it is clinically appropriate. If this applies to you, please reach out as soon as possible so we can discuss the best way to proceed. If direct billing is being used for your therapy sessions, please note that insurance companies generally do not reimburse fees for late cancellations or missed appointments. As these fees are not considered insured services, they remain the client’s responsibility and cannot be submitted for reimbursement. The cancellation or missed appointment fee will be charged using the credit card payment method on file before your next session, or within 7 days, whichever comes first. Thank you for your understanding and for helping to keep appointment times available for everyone seeking care. I truly appreciate your partnership in creating a practice that is respectful, accessible, and supportive for all.
Great question, and it's one that confuses a lot of people! Here's a high level breakdown. A Registered Social Worker (RSW) is regulated by the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) and is trained to provide therapy, counselling, and mental health support. In Ontario, RSWs are authorized to perform the controlled act of psychotherapy and, under specific regulatory conditions set out by the OCSWSSW, may also use the title "psychotherapist."A psychologist is regulated by the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario. Psychologists are trained to provide therapy and are also authorized to conduct formal psychological assessments and diagnose.A Registered Psychotherapist (RP) is regulated by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and is specifically trained in the practice of psychotherapy. They do not diagnose or conduct formal psychological assessments, but they provide skilled, evidence-based talk therapy across a wide range of mental health concerns.
In practice, the quality of care and the approaches used can be very similar across all three. What matters most is finding someone whose training, values, and way of working feel like the right fit for you.
Registered Social Work and Psychotherapy services are unfortunately not covered by OHIP; however, they are covered under many extended health benefit plans in Ontario. Coverage varies depending on your individual insurance plan, so I encourage you to confirm your eligibility and available benefits with your insurer before your first appointment.Solis Wellbeing offers direct billing for select insurance providers, where available and with your consent. For insurers that do not support direct billing, or if direct billing is unavailable under your plan, you will receive a detailed receipt that can be submitted for reimbursement.
